Background
The Neuba II Pipeline is one of three pipelines, along with the Neuba I Pipeline and San Martin Pipeline, that comprise the Transportadora de Gas del Sur (Gas Transporter of the South) system in Argentina. Transportadora de Gas del Sur (TGS) was established on December 28, 1992 after the privatization of the Argentinian energy sector, it was part of Gas del Estado, a government regulated company divided later into Transportadora de Gas del Sur (TGS) and Transportadora de Gas del Norte (TGN).[13]
The Neuba II Pipeline, built in 1988, was expanded four times between 1996 and 2000. From its starting point in the Neuquén basin, the pipeline runs southeast through La Yegua and Loma La Lata, then east through Neuquén, Río Negro, and La Pampa provinces to Bahía Blanca, where it turns north and then northeast through Buenos Aires province, ending on the southern outskirts of Buenos Aires. The pipeline is the main distribution channel for Buenos Aires and Greater Buenos Aires as well.[13]
Expansion projects
Neuba II Loop
Originally announced in 2021 as an adjunct to Argentina's Néstor Kirchner Gas Pipeline[15], the 38.2-kilometer Neuba II loop was designed to increase capacity by 5 million cubic meters per day on the Neuba II pipeline. This increased capacity allows more gas to be shipped north from Vaca Muerta to the Buenos Aires metropolitan area via the Néstor Kirchner and Neuba II pipelines, which share a junction near the Saturno compressor station.[16][17]
Neuba II Loop Project Location
The Neuba II loop runs parallel to the main Neuba II pipeline near the municipality of Carlos Casares, Buenos Aires province, Argentina. Near its northern end, the loop passes through the Ordoqui compressor station.[14]
