Background
In December 2021, New Fortress Energy signed a memorandum of understanding with Mauritania's Ministry of Petroleum, Mines & Energy to a gas-to-power project based on the 1.2 trillion cubic feet Banda Gas field offshore Mauritania. The project would supply the existing 180-MW Nouakchott Nord power plant and a proposed 120-MW Banda Gas-to-Power Project. New Fortress would develop the resource using its "fast LNG" technology, consisting of modular mid-size liquefaction units on jack-up rigs or floating infrastructure. New Fortress indicated that it intends to use the Banda resource to supply local as well as international markets.[1][3]
There have been no updates in over two years, and the project is presumed shelved as of August 2023.
