Background
Newman Unit 6 is a 228-MW gas generation unit, which will replace three older, less-efficient units (Newman Units 1 & 2, and Rio Grande Unit 7).[12] Unit 6 was commissioned in February 2024 though according to Form EIA-860M, released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration in May 2024, the commissioning date was in December 2023.[13][14] Units 1 and 2 are scheduled to retire in 2031.[14]
