Background

No. 8 and No. 1/2 Coal Mine are underground mines in Isfara, Tajikistan.[5] The mine is operated by Angisht JSC, the company appears to be owned by state-owned Angishti Tojik (Tajik Coal).[6]

The mine is located in the northern part of the Shurab coal deposit.[5] The length of the mine field is 3.8 km, the width is 1.3 km, the area is 4.9 km2, the absolute height is 1015-1350 m.[5] With depth of 500m, it is the deepest mine in Tajikistan.

The annual volume of coal produced was about 55 thousand tonnes (as of 2017).[5] Production in 2020 reached 74 thousand tonnes, according to media sources[7][8], and 91 thousand tonnes in 2021.[9]
