Background

In 2017, the Bulgarian and Macedonian transmission system signed an agreement to carry out a feasibility study for the construction of a new gas interconnection between the two countries.[4] A Memorandum between Bulgartransgaz EAD and the Macedonian Energy Resources joint stock company for the performance of energy activities was also signed for a similar feasibility study.[5]

In its 2021-2030 Ten Year Network Development Plan, released March 2021, Bulgartransgaz describes the project as in a "conceptual phase".[5] Similarly, their 2022-2031 TYNDP describes the project as being in "early stages of development."[6]
