Background

Unit 1R

The turbine for unit 1 was proposed to be replaced, as shown in the Russia's Ministry of Energy (Minenergo) 2021-2027[20] and 2022-2028 energy program. The latter program was released in February 2022.[21][22] This was also announced by the company in November 2019.[23] Unit 1 was originally expected to retire in 2022[20] The expected start up date of the new unit 1R is 2023.[23] , but this date has been updated to 2024.[22][24] As of December 2022, the design work has been completed, and the documentation for the installation has been prepared. The main equipment, including the turbine and generator, has been supplied, with some elements already mounted.[25] According to the Russia's Ministry of Energy 2024-2029 energy program, released in November 2024, the unit is still planned to be commissioned in 2024.[26] As of May 2024, there have not been any updates about the project.

Unit 5R

The turbine for unit 5 was proposed to be replaced, as shown in the Russia's Ministry of Energy (Minenergo) 2021-2027[20] and 2022-2028 energy program. The latter program was released in February 2022.[21] This was also announced by the company in November 2019.[23] The expected start up date of the new unit 5R is 2022. In November 2019, unit 5 was being dismantled.[23] In July 2022, construction of the new unit 5R was underway: a rotor for the turbo-generator, which is the main part of the steam turbine, was mounted for this unit.[27]

Unit 7 (generator replacement)

The turbo-generator for the turbine at unit 7 is proposed to be replaced, according to a media article from November 2019[23] and company newsletter.[28] The expected start up date of the new turbo-generator is 2024.[23] In December 2022, it was reported that development of project documentation was underway, and orders for manufacturing of the generator and the steam turbine had been placed. The generator had been manufactured by the Power Machines plant in St. Petersburg and was undergoing factory testing. The generator was expected to be shipped to the Novo-Salavat power station in early 2023.[25] As of November 2023. there have not been any updates about the project. The Russia's Ministry of Energy 2023-2028 and 2024-2029 energy programs do not mention the project.[21][22][26]

Unit 3 (renovation)

There are also reports about plans for replacement of a generator at unit 3 (40 MW)[20], with a contract for equipment delivery signed in 2019.[23][27]
