Background

Construction of the power station commenced in August 2023. Once built, it will become the second largest CHP plant in the region. Gas for the plant will be supplied by the Srednebotuobinskoye oil and gas condensate field. The power plant will provide electricity and heat for the Eastern Range of Russian Railways and will be used to support development of the mineral reserve base of southern Yakutia (Republic of Sakha). Investments into the project are expected to reach RUB 257 million. The plant will be located 15 kilometers away from the city of Lensk. Steam turbines for the power station will be manufactured by the Ural Turbine Works and generators - by Power Machines.[10] The project was listed in the Russian Ministry of Energy 2024-2029 energy program and is expected to be commissioned in 2028.[11]

In June 2024, it was reported that the design and technical solutions for the thermal power plant construction had been finalized and approved, with project documentation submitted to Glavgosexpertiza for review. Once this process concludes, the main construction phase will begin. Preparations were underway, including site readiness for foundation work. Key equipment contracts had been secured with the Ural Turbine Works and Power Machines. On the construction site, the first concrete plant, with a capacity of 90 cubic meters per hour, had been launched, with plans to add a second plant of the same capacity.[12]
