Background
Novoshakhtinskoye Coal Mine (Новошахтинский разрез) is a surface mine in Novoshakhtinsky, Primorsky Krai, Russia, comprised of Pavlovsky surface mine and Severnaya Depressiya surface mine.[12] The Novoshakhtinskoye coal mine is operated by Primorskugol OJSC, a subsidiary of SUEK.[12]
In 2020, production reached 3.36 million tonnes[13], in 2022 - just over 3.5 million tonnes.[14] The mine supplies to Primorskaya TPP power station, among others.[14]
The mine is located close to the border with China. Transhipment of coal is via Maly Port.
It was reported in February 2023 that in the nearest future the company will consider a 5-year development plan and SUEK has set a very ambitious task to increase coal production up to 5 million tonnes per year. For 2023 the investment programme of Novoshakhtinskoye totals 430 million rubles. The technical department was working on the documentation. To reach 5 million tonnes of coal production, about 12 billion roubles of investments were needed, according to the company.[14]
Coal production in 2023 was said to be 3.1 million tonnes in an interview with the company[10] and 3.5 by another source.[15] In the 8 months of 2024, the mine extracted 1.8 million tonnes.[2] New equipment was delivered to the mine with a view to increase production, according to a media source from May 2024.[16]
