OKD is a coal mining company with operations in the Czech Republic. According to its website, OKD is the only producer of hard coal (bituminous coal) in the Czech Republic. Its coal is mined in the southern part of the Upper-Silesian coal basin – in the Ostrava-Karviná district.[1]

Coal mines

As of 2012, OKD reports having four active coal mines with an annual production of 11 megatonnes.[2]

In 2008 OKD merged its CSA and Lazy Mines into one mine known as the Karvina coal mine, which it planned would produce approximately 12.5 million metric tons per year.[3]
