Power projects

OPG states that it has three operational power stations, one coal-fired, one gas-fired and the third a waste heat recovery plant.

The existing coal-fired power station is the 77 megawatt Chennai power station, which is currently being doubled with the new unit scheduled to be commissioned in 2012. OPG states that a further 160MW, comprising two 80MW units, will be built subsequently. The power station is owned by OPG Power Ventures subsidiary, OPG Power Generation.[3]

The company also states that a 300MW plant at Mundra Taluk, Kutch District in Gujarat, comprising two 150MW units, will be commissioned in 2013.[3] The company states that power station will be "about 25 kilometres from the Mundra Port and about 48 kilometres from the Kandla port. Work has begun on the site. Equipment has been ordered from vendors well experienced with OPG including BHEL. Tata Consulting Engineers is providing engineering expertise, Tata Power is responsible for comprehensive project management and Gannon Dunkerley are civil constructors for this plant." The plant is scheduled to be commissioned in 2013.[4]
