Okarem-Beyneu Gas Pipeline (Russian: Газопровод Окарем-Бейнеу) is an operating gas pipeline in Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.

Location

The pipeline runs from Okarem, Turkmenistan, through Balkanbat, Turkmenistan, to Tenge, Kazakhstan, and Beyneu, Kazakhstan.

Beyneu-Zhanaozen II Gas Pipeline

The Beyneu-Zhanaozen II Gas Pipeline (Russian: Газопровод Бейнеу – Жанаозен, 2-ая нитка) runs from Zhanaozen, Mangystau region, Kazakhstan, to Beyneu, Mangystau region, Kazakhstan, parallel to the Beyneu-Zhanaozen segment of the Okarem-Beyneu Gas Pipeline.

Background

The pipeline is part of the Central Asia-Center 3 (CAC-3) Gas Pipeline, and it connects the Central Asia-Center Gas Pipeline System to western regions of Turkmenistan at Beyneu.

The Okarem-Beyneu gas pipeline (the Turkmen name is "Turkmenistan (Bekdash) - Europe pipeline") was initially designed to deliver gas from the western part of the republic to the European part of the USSR. The pipeline starts from Okarem ("Ekerem" in Turkmen) and goes along the Caspian coast to the Beyneu compressor station in Kazakhstan. The pipeline’s length (Ekerem-Bekdash Gas Pipeline) within Turkmenistan from the Ekerem compressor station to the Bekdash compressor station is 540 km.

Construction of the second pipeline along the Beyneu-Zhanaozen segment of the Okarem-Beyneu pipeline was included in the Comprehensive Plan for Development of the Mangystau Region of Kazakhstan for 2021-2025. The construction began in 2021. As of June 2023, the project was complete at 30%. The pipeline is expected to be launched in December 2023.

The construction of the pipeline was completed in October 2023. According to Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov, previously, the Okarem-Beineu pipeline along this route had provided the transportation of just over 3 bcm/year of gas. Now, the combined capacity of the two pipelines will reach approximately 9 bcm/ year, fully covering the region's needs.
