Background

This 6 x 60 MW subcritical combined heat and power (CHP) plant, commissioned in 1958-59, is owned by Elektrarny Opatovice AS.[5]

In September 2022, a briefing from EU-based NGO fern stated that there were plans for the power station to convert to natural gas and/or biomass by 2030.[6]

In October 2022, Doosan Škoda Power signed a contract with Elektrárny Opatovice to upgrade the power station's Unit 3 to a 65 MW steam turbine. The work was expected to take place as part of a planned unit shutdown in 2023 and be completed in 2024.[7]
