Background

The plant proposal states the facility will be fired with both hydrogen and gas as part of Entergy's commitment to being net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. In September 2020, Entergy partnered with Mitsubishi Power to explore hydrogen possibilities. As of 2021, plans are for the plant to operate with a gas blend with 30% hydrogen and to make use of the existing hydrogen pipeline systems in the Gulf Coast region.

Construction started in early 2023, and the project is expected to be completed by 2026[9]. A consortium of Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc., Sargent & Lundy and The Industrial Company will provide Entergy Texas with engineering, procurement and construction services[10].
