Background
In 2010, Bereket Enerji contracted the Chinese firm Zhejiang Orient Engineering to build the plant in April 2010, with Chinese Politburo member Li Changchun signing an agreement for the plant's development with Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan.[1][2] It would be fueled by a nearby lignite coal mine that the company would also develop.[3]
On its website Bereket Enerji says construction is planned for 2015 and completion by the end of 2016.[4]
However, as of December 2017 there are no reports that the power station ever began construction.
As of June 2019 there is no mention of the project on the Bereket Enerji website or Turkey's Energy Market Regulatory Authority website. However as of September 2019 it does continue to hold a production license.[5] As of November 2021 the project had not progressed in more than four years, and it appears to be cancelled.
