Background
The Otvalny Yuzhny 2 coal mine began operating in 2005, although initial works date back to 1991. The mine is made up of two sections — Otvalny Yuzhny No. 2 and Otvalny Yuzhny No. 2 Gluboky. Mining began at Yuzhny in 2005, while mining began at Gluboky in 2013.[1]
The coal mine was owned and operated by Resurs LLC (OOO Ресурс).[1]
An environmental impact assessment to discontinue production and close the mine was carried out in 2020.[1]
Production discontinued at the mine in 2020 and dismantling of the buildings and equipment and cultivation of the area started.[2][3]
