Background
The government of Papua New Guinea entered a joint agreement with state-owned Dirio Gas & Power, supported by Twenty20 Energy, to develop a series of Power Island Floating Storage Regasification & Power (FSRP) facilities as part of the PAWA PNG Project. The facilities—consisting of power barges, fuel barges, and floating piers—will provide a total of 283 MW of LNG-fired power to a dozen locations around Papua New Guinea. Twenty20’s FSRP features two specific unit sizes with differing outputs, ranging from 8.6 MW to 21.9 MW, that will be used in each location.[1]
In January 2021, Japan’s NYK Group announced that it will be participating in the design, development, and engineering work of the floating LNG storage and regasification power generation facility planned near Lae, the capital of the Morobe province.[3]
