Background

In February 2016, a worker was killed in a fire at the complex.[8] The ethylene unit of the complex exploded in April 2016 which killed 32 and injured hundreds.[8][9] In 2017, a decision was made not to rebuild after the April 2016 explosion, but the energy production and alliance with PEMEX was not effected by this decision.[9]
