Background on Mine

The 15 million ton-per-annum coal mine is operated by Adani Mining, a subsidiary of privately-held Adani Group. The mine lies on the Hasdeo-Arand coalfield, which totals 5.5 billion tons of reserves.[8]

The mine has been extremely controversial.[9] It is located in a highly biodiversity-rich, densely forested area. Local villagers have repeatedly protested against the mines, and against other proposals to mine the Hasdeo-Arand coalfield.[10][11]
