Background

Port Edward LNG Terminal is a small-scale, 0.3-mtpa LNG export project proposed in Port Edward, British Columbia, Canada. The developers have selected a 37-acre site about five kilometers east of Port Edward next to a BC Hydro operations and a gas pipeline. The project would be built on the traditional territories of the Tsimshian communities. The terminal's export market would include Asia and northern communities in Canada.

In June 2022, CFTK-TV reported that construction for the project could begin in the coming months.[3]

In June 2023, CFNR Network reported that construction could begin as early as fall. According to Port Edward LNG's CEO, the project's three year planning phase is about complete, and construction will take about 2 years. In an update provided to the First Nations LNG Alliance last weekend, Hilliard says the project’s three year planning phase is just about finished. The project's cost was cited as being CAN$450 million.[4]
