Background
The pipeline was part of an infrastructure adaptation project in 2020 in the areas of Mitare and Tiguadare.[3]
Repeated leaks from the pipeline near the Punta Cardón refinery have contaminated offshore waters in the Gulf of Venezuela and Lake Maracaibo.[4]
