Queensland Rail is a government-owned railway agency which primarily operates passenger servies. On its website Queensland Rail states "our major business includes long distance trains, rail holidays and travel centres and management and access to the South East Queensland and regional freight networks."[1]
In 2009 the Queensland government split its publicly owned railways into Queensland Rail. running the passenger services and QR National, a privatised company running the coal and freight business. [1]
