Background on Mine

The Rehar Underground Coal Mine has a designed capacity of 0.31 MTPA on a mining lease area of 408.20 ha. It is in the Bisrampur coal block operated by South Eastern Coalfields Limited. The project received environment clearance on 27 November 2002.[2] However, the project needs revalidation of its environment clearance as per the revised guidelines of the MoEF&CC, India.[3]

The Rehar coal block is divided in two blocks, Rehar East known as Rehar UG mine and Rehar West (Mani & Jogi) known as Gayatri coal mine.

An expansion of the project from 0.31 MTPA to 0.80 MTPA was planned and ToR was accordingly obtained from the MoEF&CC India on 24 August 2009[4] and accordingly a EIA report was prepared as well.[5] However, due to technical reasons it was never completed.
