Background

The plant was commissioned in October 2015.[2] Unit 4 of the plant co-fires with biomass.[3]

As Japan Beyond Coal highlighted,[4] on June 5, 2023, the Rengo Group declared its commitment to reduce coal use at its domestic manufacturing sites to zero by 2027. According to its press release, Rengo will change the fuel used in two paper manufacturing mills. The Kanazu Mill and Marusan Paper Mill were expected to switch to LNG in 2026 and 2027, respectively, eliminating coal entirely.[5]
