Background
Revuboè Mine (Minas de Revuboè) is a proposed coal mine, owned by Talbot Group and Nippon Steel/Sumitomo Metal, to produce approximately 7 million tonnes per annum, in the Moatize Basin, Tete Province, Mozambique.[2] According to the company website, "In July 2004, Prospecting and Exploration Licence 693L was granted and renewed in 2009 for another 3 years. In April 2013, Mining Concession 4064C was granted and a mining contract was signed with the Government of Mozambique." While there have been few recent updates, the project appears to be moving forward, with public profiles available for site managers and other professionals.[2]
A promotional video on the company website estimates a 35-year life of mine.[2]
At the Coal Trans Conference in 2019, the mine was originally scheduled to produce 17 million tonnes per annum,[3] but in a 2021 update from IEA, the figure was reduced to 7 million tonnes per annum.[4]
