Background

The facility would be Riot Blockchain's second major cryptocurrency mining operation in Texas. The other is the Whinstone facility near Rockdale, Texas, and as of June 2022 it is the largest cryptocurrency mine in North America, at 400 MW (with plans to expand to 750 MW). Riot Blockchain announced plans for the construction of the Navarro County facility in April 2022.[1] It will be built in phases, with the first phase consisting of 400 MW of installed capacity, followed by a 600 MW expansion. Construction on phase I is expected to continue into the first quarter of 2024.

A local civic group has formed to oppose the construction of the facility.[2][3]
