Robert C. Skaggs Jr.

Robert C. Skaggs Jr. is president and chief executive officer of NiSource. He was named president in October 2004 and CEO in July 2005. Previously he was executive vice president of Regulated Revenue for the company.[1]

Beginning in 1996 he was president of Columbia Gas of Ohio and Columbia gas of Kentucky. When Columbia Energy Group merged with NiSource in November 2000, he also became the president of Bay State Gas and Northern Utilities. In 2001, his role was further expanded to include the titles of president and CEO of the Columbia companies in Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland.[1]

Skaggs received an undergraduate degree in economics from Davidson College, a law degree from West Virginia University and a master's degree in business administration from Tulane University.[1]

Compensation

In April 2008, Forbes listed Skaggs as receiving $810,000 in total compensation in the previous fiscal year, with a five-year total compensation of $2.58 million. He ranked 39th on the list of CEOs in the Utility industry, and 498th out of all CEOs in the United States.[2]

Power portfolio

Out of its total 4,079 MW of electric generating capacity in 2005 (0.38% of the U.S. total), NiSource produced 85.1% from coal, 14.5% from natural gas, and 0.5% from hydroelectricity. All of NiSource's power plants are in Indiana.[3]
