Background

The operator of the Ukrainian gas transmission system Ukrtransgaz announced that the company agreed with Moldovagaz and GTS operators of other countries to create new import capacities based on existing trans-Balkan pipelines in the South-North direction.[3]

“It is expected that already on January 1, 2020, a permanent capacity will be created for imports from Romania in the amount of 1.5 billion cubic meters per year, regardless of the volume of Russian gas transit. Transportation of blue fuel from the point Romanian Isakcha-1 - Orlovka will be carried out by the main gas pipelines Razdelnaya - Izmail and Shebelinka - Dnepropetrovsk - Kryvyi Rih - Izmail," the press service of Ukrtransgaz said in a statement.[3]

The Rozdilna-Izmail Pipeline is a main pipeline in Ukraine's southern corridor. It enters through the Ryasnopil (Rozdilna) gas metering station in Moldova and exits to Romania through the Orlivka gas metering and pumping station.

The Razdelnaya-Izmail gas pipeline ensures the transit of natural gas in the Balkan direction through the territory of Moldova and provides natural gas to the settlements of Causeni and Stefan Voda regions in Moldova.[4]

Change of the operator & owner in gas transmission system of Ukraine

In the same year pursuant to Art. 24 of the Law of Ukraine “On the Natural Gas Market”, the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities (hereinafter – NEURC) adopted a final decision supporting certification of LLC Gas TSO of Ukraine according to the ISO model, and also issued the license for the right to carry out activities for the transmission of natural gas allowing the company to perform its functions starting with January 1, 2020 (Resolution of 24.12.2019 No.3011).[1]

In 2020 LLC Gas TSO of Ukraine was fully separated from Naftogaz Group and 100% stake in the authorized capital was transferred to the state-owned company JSC Mahistralni Gazoprovody Ukrainy (MGU). JSC MGU owns 100% of the shares of LLC Gas TSO of Ukraine.[1]
