Background

Ruijin power station is a two-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 700 MW in Jiangxi Province. It is owned by China Huaneng.[1]

Expansion

China Huaneng has proposed adding two 1,000 MW units. As of 2015 they were under construction.[1]

Following the November 24, 2016 scaffolding disaster at Ganneng Fengcheng power station in which 73 workers died, all coal plants under constructions in Jiangxi Province were ordered to stop to complete required safety procedures. By July 2017, Ruijin power station was still waiting for a permit to restart the construction.[2]

Construction resumed on units 3-4 in 2018. They are planned for commissioning in 2021.[3][4]

Unit 3 was commissioned in September 2021.[5]

Unit 4 was commissioned in December 2021.[6]
