Background

The São Marcos power station consists of two 2100 MW power plants proposed as part of a larger gas-to-power project that also includes the proposed São Marcos Bay FSRU.[6] In March 2021, Golar Power (Hygo Energy Transition) acquired 50% of the power project when the power station was in the licensing phase.[7] The project is projected to connect to the SIN via a 500 kV transmission line connecting to the São Luis II Substation.[7]

As of July 2021, the Brazilian government continued to list the São Marcos power station and the associated São Marcos Bay LNG Terminal as active projects in the licensing phase.[8]

As of October 2023, there had been no news about the project in more than two years, and it was presumed to be shelved.
