Background

In November 2011, the ratings agency Fitch stated that SV Power Private Limited (SVPL) had been set up "by the Hyderabad-based KVK group to implement a project consisting of a 2.5mtpa coal washery and a 63MW washery reject-based power plant".[1]

SVPL operates a coal washery with a beneficiation capacity of 2.5 million tonnes per annum and a 63 MW coal washery reject-based thermal power plant in Korba, Chhattisgarh. SVPL was acquired from KVK Group in March 2015 by SCPL, a wholly owned subsidiary of ACBIL.[2]

The plant was commissioned in 2011 and may have previously been proposed as 2 x 50 MW.[3]

Proposed expansion

On its website in 2012, KVK stated that "a coal and coal reject based power project with a capacity of 2*150 MW to be expanded at the project site located at Renki village, Korba District, Chhattisgarh State. The land acquisition has been completed and has applied for the MoEF Approval and Fuel Linkage from South Eastern Coalfields Ltd . The State of Chhattisgarh shall be the beneficiary of 30% of the power generated and 70% to be sold to Merchant Basis. The Phase II of the power project with a capacity of 300 MW is planned to be commissioned in the XIIth Five Year Plan." (The 12th Five Year Plan is 2012-2017).[4]

As of May 2016, the project had yet to receive environmental permits and appeared to be shelved or abandoned.
