Background

Sagar Cements began its journey in 1985.[1] The Mattampally cement plant was commissioned in 1985 with a 200 tonnes per day kiln with a four-stage preheater. The four-stage preheater technology, introduced in 1980s, uses less coal and electricity. Before the advent of this technology, cement plants used wet process in which heat (coal) and electricity consumption was very high.[1] The plant capacity was expanded in 2008 by adding an additional six-stage calciner preheater, kiln and pendulum cooler, and a 2.5 MTPA cement-grinding capacity adjacent to the existing kiln.[1]
