Background
In 1996 the Samatzai cement plant received the ISO 9002 quality certification and in 2003 the ISO 14001 environmental certification. In 2011 the plant obtained Integrated Environmental Authorization. In 2013 Italcementi (owner at the time) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Mayors of the Municipalities of Samatzai, Serrenti and Nuraminis and the Presidents of the Provinces of Cagliari and Medio Campidano for the adoption of joint initiatives, aimed at enhancing the territory and promoting sustainable development. In 2015, the plant began a modernization project involving the construction of a new shed for the storage of fuels, a new tanks for the treatment of rainwater, and an effort to reduce emissions.
