Background

The San Luis Coal Mine (known locally as Proyecto San Luis) is a proposed coal mine located in El Carmen de Chucurí, Santander, Colombia. The proposed San Luis Mine is a project of San Luis Coal S.A. As of August 2021, detailed engineering studies were underway, and the company had applied for an environmental license and received government approval for its official work plan.[3]

In a list of the National Mining Agency's (Agencia Nacional de Mineria) current mining titles in January 2023, San Luis Coal S.A. was listed as having received initial approval, but did not have a valid environmental license to operate.[4] Without known documentation of the proposed mine's progress or further development since August 2021, the project was presumed shelved.
