The San Miguel Electric Cooperative Inc. "was created on February 17, 1977, under the Rural Electric Cooperative Act of the State of Texas, for the purpose of owning and operating a 400-MW mine-mouth, lignite-fired generating plant and associated mining facilities that furnish power and energy to Brazos Electric Power Cooperative, Inc. (BEPC) and South Texas Electric Cooperative, Inc. (STEC)".[1]

San Miguel Mine

San Miguel Electric Cooperative, Inc. is owner of the San Miguel Mine near Christine, Texas. The North American Coal Corporation began contract mining operations from the mine in 1997. The San Miguel mine delivers approximately 3.5 million tons of coal per year.[2]
