Background

The Oregon Line was initially owened by the Southern Pacific Corporation, which merged with the Santa Fe Corporation in 1983.[5] Kinder Morgan acquired the pipeline in 1997, after purchasing the Santa Fe Company.[5]

In 2023, the West Line was forced to shut down its deliveries of gasoline and diesel to Las Vegas and Phoeniz because of a leak in the system, causing the Governor of Nevada to declare a state of emergency.[6] The pipeline's services were restored three days later.[7]

In January 2025, the West Line was temporarily shut down because of the wildfires in Southern California.[8]

Environment and social impacts

On September 13, 1989, a pipeline belonging to the Oregon Line in Marion County, Oregon, was ruptured after a construction worker drove a bulldozer over a stream bed.[4] The incident caused 30,000 gallons of gasoline to spill in Mill Creek, resulting in the evacuation of nearby neighborhoods.[4]

Expansion projects

Expansion project

The expansion project is proposed to run from El Paso, Texas to Tucson, Arizona.[9]
