Background
The new unit CC1 (also referred to as "11, 12 CC-115"; Russian: "11, 12 ПГУ-115") was mentioned in the company plan,[14] news in May 2021[15] and listed in the Ministry of Energy 2022-2028 energy program, released in February 2022,[16] and the Ministry of Energy 2023-2029 energy program, released in February 2023.[17] A few news sources caused a confusion mistaking Saratov CHP-2 with Saratov CHP-1.[18][19][20] Once the new unit becomes operational, the old equipment will be retired.[21]
The turbine for the project (GTE-65) was to by supplied by Russia's Power Machines. However, in January 2024 it was reported that T Plus was considering to give up the project, partly because it could not obtain the final price of the turbine.[22] In September 2024, it was reported that the GTE-65 turbine was still in the production stage, with the prototype expected to be completed in the first half of 2025. Testing is planned for Q3 2026. Originally, it was anticipated that Power Machines would complete this unit by the end of 2024, but the timeline has been adjusted to accommodate production and development requirements.[23] The project is still listed in the Scheme and Program for the Development of Electric Power System of Russia for 2025–2030, published by the Ministry of Energy in November 2024, with the commissioning deadline in 2028. As of December 2024, there have not been any further updates.[24]
Accidents
On January 9, an accident occurred at Saratov CHP-2 leading to a drop in heating parameters for 652 residential buildings and 100 social infrastructure facilities. The incident disrupted the heating system, significantly impacting the local community during the winter season.[25]
