Background

Shenzhen LNG Terminal is a proposed LNG terminal in Guangdong, China.

Originally proposed in 2009 and intended to supply Hong Kong and Guangdong with LNG, the Shenzhen LNG Terminal faced obstacles in 2014 over environmental concerns brought forth by activists who were concerned about the nearby plant's environmental impacts. In 2015 the land use of the project was scaled back due to these environmental concerns and proposed to only build four, 200,000 cubic meter tanks over two phases of construction. The project is to support and coordinate with the West-East Gas Pipeline 2.

The construction started at the end of 2017. There was a news report on its construction progress in December 2019. As of January 2022, construction was still ongoing. In September 2022, there was news on the progress of its storage tanks.

On February 12, 2023, Shenzhen city authority released a document for public review to determine if Shenzhen LNG Terminal is located within the basic ecological control line of Shenzhen. If there is no rejections within 30 days, the city will approve the land use of the project.

As of Fubruary 2024, the construction is ongoing and the completion date is set in 2024.
