Background
Shinchi power station is a 2 x 1,000 MW supercritical coal plant in the town of Shinchi. It began operating in 1994-5.[1]
In March 2022, both units of the power station were shut down due to a combination of technical problems and a magnitude 7.4 earthquake that occurred within days of each other. Unit 1 resumed operation in November 2022, and Unit 2 resumed operation in January 2023.[2]
Unit 2 was shut down again on 16 February 2023 due to problems with a boiler control circuit. No date was given for when the unit was likely to restart.[3]
