Background

In September 2007, Akfen Enerji announced plans to build a two-unit, 1,600-MW, $1.5-billion coal-fired power plant in Sinop province.[1][2]

In March 2009, Akfen Enerji acknowledged that it would have to indefinitely delay the project due to the economic crisis, asking for a one-year extension from the EPDK.[3]

More recent news about this project is not available, and the project is not mentioned on the websites of either Akfen Enerji or its parent company Akfen Holding. It would appear that this project has either been cancelled or postponed indefinitely.[4][5]
