Background

In January 2019 an agreement to build the terminal was signed by Deputy Secretary of the Longkou Municipal Party Committee and Langkou Mayor Lu Bo, Sinopec, the Longkou Port Group, and Hengtong Logistics.

The project received permit for construction in September 2021.

Construction on the first phase began in December 2021. The operating was expected in 2023.

As of December 2022, the first phase is making progress on construction.

The second phase of Sinopec Longkou LNG Terminal was brought out for public review on environmental impact in October 2021, and on social security impact in May 2022. The second phase will add 6 storage tanks. Two of them are 270,000 cubic meters of capacity and four are 220,000 cubic meters. According to the framework agreement between Sinopec and Longlou local government in 2019, after the second phase the total receiving capacity will reach 20 mtpa. But later source indicates that after the second phase the total receiving capacity will reach 12 mtpa. Considering the storage capacity and the total investment, 12 mtpa is more reasonable.

As of November 2023, the construction of the first phase is still ongoing.
