Background

Route

The gas pipeline will connect the Srednetyungskoye Gas and Condensate Field to the production site of the Nakyn Ore Field.[1] The Srednetyungskoye field is located in the Vilyuysky district of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) at a considerable distance from existing gas pipelines (Srednevilyuyskoye Gas Condensate Field-Yakutsk Gas Pipeline) - about 200 km in a straight line, and its connection appears to be a task for the distant future.[3] The Nakyn Ore Field is located in the Nyurbinsky district of the Republic of Sakha, approximately 280 km from the city of Mirny.[4]

Project status

The project is being implemented as part of the cooperation agreement between the Republic of Sakha and the company ALROSA. The agreement was signed in 2021 on the gasification of the facilities of the Nyurbinsky Mining and Processing Plant of ALROSA at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. From that moment, the process of developing the project, conducting engineering surveys, and making technical decisions for the construction of the 160-kilometer gas pipeline began. The construction of the pipeline will allow ALROSA to switch from oil and diesel fuel, currently used to generate electricity at the site, to gas starting from from 2026.[1]

The construction of the pipeline began in October 2023 and is planned to be completed in 2025.[1] The customer for the construction is ALROSA's subsidiary, Yakutsk Generating Company LLC, and the general contractor is Sakhatransneftegaz JSC.[4] In the future, this project opens up prospects for gasification of the Nyurbinsky and Suntarsky districts in the Republic of Sakha.[1]
