Background

The pipeline is owned and operated by Andhra Pradesh Gas Distribution Corporation (APGDC).[1]

On June 6, 2017, APGDC submitted an Expression of Interest (EOI) for laying, building and operating Srikakulam-Angul Gas Pipeline to the Petroleum and Natural Gas regulatory board. The EOI states APGDC is setting up a FRSU in Kakinada which will have its gas transferred via the Kakinada-Vizag-Srikakulam Gas Pipeline Srikakulam. From there, APGDC enciosined a pipeline to take gas to Angul. The original EOI stated the pipeline length would be approximately 400 km.[1]

In August 2019 the chairman of Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) announced that GAIL had been selected to build the pipeline.[6]

As of August 2021, the following is listed as background information of the Srikakulam Angul Pipeline Project on the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Infrastructure and Project Monitoring Division website:

"Project is being executed in below mentioned 3 phases: Phase 1 Scope: Laying of Mainline from Angul (Odisha) to Srikakulam (Andhra Pradesh) (approx. 390 Km) Status: Under Execution. PMC (M/s MECON) appointed on 03rd Jan, 2020 & engineering & tendering for packages is in progress. 2. Phase 2 Scope: Laying of Spurline (approx. 300 Km) Status: PMC (M/s MECON) appointed on 03rd Jan, 2020. However, execution of same shall be taken after tie-up of anchor load customers for whom the spur line is proposed. 3. Phase 3 Scope: Installation of compressor Status: Engagement of PMC and execution of compressor installation work shall be taken up at later stage in line with capacity built-up of the proposed Pipeline. It may be noted that project progress & corresponding milestones list being reported above is only of Phase 1 i.e. Mainline which is under execution. Progress of Phase 2 & Phase 3 shall be suitably reported upon start of execution." [3]
