Background
In 2007, construction of the unit began on a site that previously housed two coal plants: Staythorpe A and Staythorpe C.[6] Since it was commissioned in 2011, it has provided 1828 MW of power through a gas-fired turbine.[7]
In 2021 the project applied for 1,864 MW existing generation (units 1, 2, 3, and 4) in the T-4 Capacity Market 2024-2025 auction, and they were listed in the final results.[8][9] This would qualify them for government subsidies to guarantee electricity supply.[10]
