Background

The Stepova Coal Mine is an underground coal mine in Lviv Oblast, Ukraine.

The Stepova coal mine is owned and operated by the state-owned Lvivgughiliya (Lviv Coal).

In 2017, a tragic accident occurred at the mine where an explosion caused by a methane-air mixture killed eight miners, with nine injured.

The mine produced about 0.3 Mt in 2021, while total production by Lvivgughiliya was 1.173 Mt.
