Background

The Stepova Coal Mine is an underground coal mine in Lviv Oblast, Ukraine. The Stepova coal mine is owned and operated by the state-owned Lvivgughiliya (Lviv Coal).

In 2017, a tragic accident occurred at the mine where an explosion caused by a methane-air mixture killed eight miners, with nine injured.

The mine produced about 0.3 Mt in 2021, while total production by Lvivgughiliya was 1.173 Mt.

As of October 2023, the mine appeared to be operational.
