Background
The Sumitomo Osaka Cement Tochigi Cement Plant, located in Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, has been operational since 1938.[1]
In April 2009, the plant introduced a biomass power generation system utilizing wood chips as fuel, aligning with the company's commitment to sustainability.[2]
In May 2011, production at the Tochigi Plant was temporarily suspended due to radioactive contamination of cement-making materials following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. The plant resumed production after ensuring that the cement produced met safety standards.[3]
