Background

The Sunbury Pipeline is a 35-mile interstate transmission pipeline, which is owned and operated by UGI Sunbury, LLC, a subsidiary of UGI Corporation. The pipeline serves Panda Hummel Station, a state-of-the-art natural gas-fueled power plant at the existing site of the coal-fired Sunbury Generation facility near Shamokin Dam in Snyder County, Pennsylvania, as well as UGI Central Penn Gas, a local natural gas distribution company. The new Panda Hummel Station power plant is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2018.[9]

In July 2015, UGI Sunbury LLC filed an application at U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for authorization to construct, own and operate the pipeline.[10] In May 2016, Sunbury Pipeline received FERC approval.[11] The construction of the project started in May 2016 and was completed in January 2017.[7][12]
