Background
The Suska Coal Mine Project was a former proposed mine located between Tumbler Ridge and Chetwynd, British Columbia, Canada. It was first explored by Cline Mining as early as 2005.[3]
In 2012, Xstrata Coal (which was absorbed by Glencore in 2013) acquired the project property from Cline Mining and combined the project formerly known as "Lossan" with neighboring First Coal tenements to create an expanded open-cut coal project, now known as the Suska project.[4]ref>Glencore Xstrata – the birth of a mining monster, London Mining Network, October 2013.</ref>
A partnership formed by JX Nippon Oil & Energy and Xstrata planned to invest $35 million on a preliminary study of the Suska coal project in eastern British Columbia.[5][3]
While the project still appears on Glencore's Resources and Reserves report, there have been no public updates on its progress in several years.[6] As such, the project is presumed to be cancelled.
