Background
Taiheiyo Cement Corporation ("Pacific Ocean Cement Corporation") (太平洋セメント株式会社, Taiheiyō Semento Kabushiki-gaisha) is a Japanese cement company, formed in 1998 with the merger of Chichibu Onoda (itself a merger of Chichibu Cement and Onoda Cement) and Nihon Cement (formerly Asano Cement).[1]
Chichibu Cement Co., Ltd. was founded in 1922.[2] Kumagaya Factory was completed and began operations in 1962.[2]
In April 2021, Taiheiyo Cement announced its plan to start a CO2 capture demonstration project at the Kumagaya plant. It will use technology for CO2 chemical absorption supplied by UK-based Carbon Clean. The project will have a capacity of 10t/day and demonstration tests will begin in September 2021.[3][4] Taiheiyo Cement completed installations to demonstrate CO2 capture from kiln exhaust gas and the utilization of the captured CO2 in February 2022.[5]
