Background
Tailepsky coal mine (Тайлепский разрез) is a surface mine Kemerovo Oblast, Russia. Tailepsky coal mine is operated and owned by Tailepsky Razrez LLC. It is the only coal mine owned by the company.[4] The company is owned by a private individual Evgeny Shevelev.[5][6]
Historically the section was developed as an underground mine from 2001 till 2014. During this period about 40 thousand tonnes of coal were extracted. Over 2004-2006 the ownership of the mine changed and the new owners mothballing the underground mine. The mined areas were flooded and the entrance points cemented. After technical investigations by the new owners, it was decided to develop the section as a surface mine with capacity of 1 million tonnes. The surface mine started operations in 2017.[7] It mines from the Karachiyak coal deposit.
In 2018 the mine produced 0.7 million tonnes of coal and planned to increase it to 1 million tonnes.[5] Production in 2022 reached 0.923 million tonnes, which was 42% higher than in 2021.[8]
Produced coal is both exported and supplied to the domestic market.[4]
In March 2023, the Rosprirodnadzor website published an announcement of public hearings on the project to expand the Tailepsky the mine and to build an enrichment plant.[9][10]
