Background

The Taldinsky coal mine (Талдинский разрез) is a surface coal mine in Kemerovo Oblast, Russia. The Taldinsky coal mine is a surface coal mine, owned by Kuzbassrazrezugol, a subsidiary of Ural Mining Metallurgical Company.[11]

The surface mine includes three sections - Taldinsky, Tayezhnoye and Erunakovskoye. In 2006, a mine section 'Tayezhnoye pole' was joined to the Taldinsky mine, and in 2009 - the Erunakovskoye section.[12] The mine is one of the largest in the Kemerovo region and in Russia.[13]

The mine produces about 13 million tonnes per annum.[14] In 2021 the mine increased production by 1.5 million, therefore reaching 11 million tonnes.[11] There are no 2022 production figures, however Kuzbassrazrezugol reported in its 2022 annual report that the volume of well drilling and the volume of rock blasting at the mine increased by 9% and 11%, respectively, compared with 2021. This can be an indication that production increased further in 2022.[15]

In July 2023, the mine was testing new drilling equipment.[16]
